OUR HISTORY
E & J Specialties was launched in 1963 by John Phelps and Everett Athow. In the beginning, John was a salesman for a hospital supply company, and Everett was head of circulation at a local newspaper. They discovered that displaying one's name via name badges made building business relationships much easier. Their idea was to change sales representatives lives for the better. That was over 48 years ago.
E & J's first name badges were very simple and produced in John's basement. Soon, John and Everett were supplying badges to companies such as Johnson & Johnson, our first national account.
Many things have changed since those early days. We've survived a flood, the loss of our founder (John Phelps), and most recently a fire. Today, E & J Specialties, Inc. is still a family based business. We have embraced advancements in technology, improved our printing capabilities, and expanded our product lines. Currently, we carry a full line of name badges, professional sales accessories, and have access to over 500,000 imprinted promotional and specialty advertising items.
